More Definitions

Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC)

AAC is used to support people with speech or language difficulties. It can take many forms, such as signs, gestures, picture boards, or speech-generating devices.

Orofacial Myofunctional therapy

This is a special approach that addresses the muscles of the mouth, tongue and face. The therapist performs exercises that are designed specifically to train proper breathing, speaking, chewing and swallowing.

Tethered Oral Tissue (TOTS)

Tethered oral tissue can restrict tongue, lip, or other oral movement, affecting speech and feeding. This is often called a tongue tie or lip tie.
